FAQ's

Let's take a look at some frequently asked questions about handmade soap.

What is your handmade soap made of? Our soap is made from a base, called a melt and pour base, in which you don't have to work with lye because the saponification process is already done for you (as opposed to cold process and hot process). It's still made of oils and butters and a lot natural ingredients, some bases include detergents and some do not. We prefer to use  SLS *Sodium Laureth Sulfate* free bases, because that is the detergent that causes the most issues for skin. All of our ingredients are listed on our soaps and in each online listing. Cold process soap is something that will be coming to Sweet Daisy Soap Co. in the new year, though!

Is it "natural"? Soap is made by a chemical reaction between sodium hydroxide (lye) and fats. In the end, the lye is no longer present after the chemical reaction has taken place and turned it into soap. We use other "natural" ingredients in our soap including oils, essential oils, salts, herbs, etc. But you will still find things like humectants and surfactants.

What do you use for fragrance? We use skin safe fragrance oils, and in certain soaps we use organic essential oils. Essential oils are most beneficial for skin when absorbed transdermally, and in soap, your skin is not absorbing the essential oils, so to save costs, we only use essential oils in specific soaps and use fragrance oil for everything else.
